HNThumper XXV: Detail

Stainless steel, a little piece of brass, and a bunch of meat being forced to submit. That’s all you see today…

Here’s where it all comes together. The tube fits into the ring, the lock holds them together, the meat does what it’s told. You can even see the PA fixing slid over the post on the tube ensuring perfect security.

One of the things I love about the Steelheart is how you can see all the organic hand-crafted details of its construction. It’s a precision thing, but still obviously made by a man more than a machine. Click the image for the big version and you’ll see each weld and imperfection and the marks that come from living in the thing every day. You can almost feel its warmth. It seems as much a living thing as that which it protects, even though its made of hard, unforgiving steel.

  1. Yum. This is one of the things I loved about the Lori – it was hand-made, with all the imperfections that implies.

How effective and secure do you find this, Thumper?

We’re looking for something less obtrusive and easier to work out/cycle in for Himself.

    1. Without the custom PA fixing, it would be less secure than the CB6K. *With* the PA fixing, it’s 100% secure. Check out the second video on this page. It’s inescapable (absent tools capable of cutting through the stainless which I don’t have).

With regard to cycling, I think this would be an excellent choice as long as John doesn’t wear tight, pandex-like cycling shorts. Besides the visibility issues, the tightness would tend to shove it one way or the other and not allow for the flexibility needed when biking for long distances. With loose shorts, he’d probably forget he was wearing it.
